The “Secret Of Works” by Vivekananda :-

The “Secret Of Works” by Vivekananda :-

Helping man spiritually is the best help than helping him physically. The next best help that can be rendered to man is intellectual help. Vivekananda asserts that ignorance is death, knowledge is life. The physical help can never bring permanent satisfaction. The highest type of help is that makes us strong spiritually.

Every work must necessarily be a mixture of good and evil: yet we are commanded to work incessantly. Work incessantly but not attached to it is the one central idea in Geetha. Mind is compared to a lake where ripples arise and disappear but it leaves a mark. Similarly every work that we do leaves an impression on our minds and some of the impressions determines what we are. This is what is called “Smaskara”. Everyman is impelled to do good or bad by these impressions. If the mind is full of good impressions, it will not allow the man to do evil.

Liberation means freedom from the bondage of good as well as evil. A golden chain is as much a chain as an iron one.

Love never comes until there is a freedom. You should work like a master and not like a slave. There is no true love possible in the slave. Real existence, real knowledge, and real love are eternally connected with one another, the three in one. The true love can never react so as to cause pain either to the lover or to the beloved. If lovers cannot get near enough, they feel pain. But if there is real love, this does not rest on physical attachment. Lovers may be a thousand miles away from each other, but their love does not die and will never produce any painful reaction.

All thought of obtaining returns for the work we do, hinders our spiritual progress: may in the end it brings misery. The selfless and unattached man may live in the very heart of a crowded and sinful city, yet he will not be touched by sin.

Karma yoga means readiness to act and help everyone without any thought of return. The true life of action is indeed harder than the equally true life of renunciation.
